Tommy Docherty

Former Professional Footballer, Football Manager, After Dinner Speaker, Guest Apperances

Tommy Docherty is still a very popular After Dinner Speaker.

Tommy went on the After Dinner Circuit when he finally retired from the world of football.

As a player Docherty was best known for the 9 years he spent at Preston North End making 323 appearances and winning the FA Cup in 1954. He also played for Arsenal and had short periods at Celtic and Chelsea.

Once his playing career was over he went on to manage Chelsea from 1961 to 67 before moving on to manage Rotherham United, QPR, Aston Villa and Porto.

In 1971 he became Scotland manager although in 1972 when the chance came to manage Manchester United he took it with both hands spending 5 years there. In that time United were relegated to the Second Division although came straight back up to the First as Second Division Champions. In 1977 United won the FA Cup under Docherty.

After his time at United Docherty went on to manage a host of other clubs including a spell at his main club as a player, Preston North End.

Tommy certainly has some interested stories to tell which are well received at any After Dinner event.
